It’s been two years since BJSHS had a strong drama program. The school’s last official play was Frozen JR in April of 2023. Since then, the latest drama teacher has left the school and BJSHS has now been without a drama instructor for about 3 years.
Without a drama program, the students involved are missing out on all the positive creativity and memorization that comes with acting in these plays. Staging, makeup and costume design are all huge parts of the arrangement that are useful outside of the school setting. Community involvement is necessary to keep the drama ensemble running.
The drama program was terminated once the previous teacher left and no one stepped up to fill in her position. Mr. Eastman, principal of BJSHS, stated “nothing’s ever over for good” and that once we find someone willing to fill that role, if there are enough students that want this to continue, that we can continue the program.
The position is not currently open however, there is a community member willing to step up and fill that role. If the school can find a qualified person to fill that position, it is possible drama could return spring of 2026.
